Global real estate investment managers face multiple challenges of scale, transaction complexity and transparency across their business and are turning to technology to provide them with a competitive advantage. However, the design and execution of a successful technology development is highly dependent on understanding and combining the key business and strategy requirements of senior management within a firm.

Lionpoint Group continues to expand our real estate advisory practice by hiring resources with significant experience in the area of real estate systems strategy. Lisa Howat has joined to lead the Real Estate Strategic Advisory practice and will be based out of our New York City office.  She was the CIO at Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers for 15 years prior to the merger with Barings in 2016.  Most recently she was the Barings Real Estate Technology Officer.

Ms. Howat has worked in the real estate sector since 1988, first as a property accountant at a local management firm and then as a manager at Travelers Real Estate Investment Group where she held various positions in accounting, asset management and IT.  In 1993 she joined Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers as the accounting manager and was promoted to CIO in 2001.  She was responsible for the firm’s IT strategy as they grew from 2B in AUM to 51B as of 2017 and also managed the systems administration, development and application support teams.  Ms. Howat is recognized as an industry expert having served as a vice chair with both NAREIM and NCREIF.  She also served on the RealComm advisory council for several years.
